For anyone who still checks this site....

Baby Ganson #2 is on the way!

I'm about 12 weeks, we heard the heartbeat this morning, and the due date as of now is September 26.  I'm feeling great!  I had very mild morning sickness for maybe the last two weeks, but nothing like it was compared to being pregnant with Micah.  And just like with Micah, on cue, even that morning sickness ended right at the 12 week mark.

Yay for baby!

Okay, I couldn't resist... one last post!  A friend of ours who just started her own photography business (Deb Haney, LifeView Photography) gave me a CD today of the pictures she took of Micah back in October.  I'll only post a few... the rest are at Facebook! :)

I know, I know.  I've been reminded by several people now that's it's been since August sinceI updated.  But herein lies the problem... I very rarely have time to blog, and almost everyone i know has switched away from xanga.  So, for simplicity's sake, if you want to see current pictures of Micah or hear what is going on in the Ganson household, check out my Facebook page.  I've done a horrible job at updating it too, but now that I've gotten a little more used to it, I know it'll be simpler, and if I have to pick between xanga and facebook, facebook it is!  (Sorry, Xanga!)  I just added a new album of pictures there.  So just go to www.facebook.com, create an account if you don't already have one, and be sure to add me as a friend.  (You'll find me as "Janelle Bender Ganson") .

Here's one photo to hold you over until you get on Facebook! :)

I can breathe again!  Last week was Vacation Bible School, which I was in charge of, and with all the planning and then actually doing it, I was pooped!  We combined with our inner-city "sister church", the Springfield Vineyard, and that always adds a few new dynamics.  For one, I'm a pretty niave person... when I was putting up VBS signs outside the Springfield Vineyard one afternoon, I couldn't figure out why this one lady kept walking up and down the street (a little scantily clad, I might add.)  Until of course a truck pulled up and she got in and I realized she was a prostitute... probably the saddest thing I've ever seen.  But VBS went off without very many hitches, so that's a good thing.  One of the leaders told me that a little boy in her group said he had seen a picture of a man hanging on a cross in a store one time, but he never knew what that was about until we explained it to him at VBS.  The more I do children's minstry, the more important I realize it is (and the more important it is to reach the families) because if the right foundation and worldview isn't laid early on, it's so hard to tear it all down and replace it with the truth later.  (For anyone interested, check out George Barna's book, "Transforming Children into Spritual Champions: Why Children's Ministry Should Be Your Church's #1 Priority".)  Good stuff.

Another exciting thing is that I am back to volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center!  I've missed working with the clients there, and it's too easy for me to get comfortable working at a suburban church and being a wife and mom, so this is an "invigorating" change!  I'm volunteering at the Springfield Pregnancy Resource Center instead of the Miami Valley Women's Center where I used to work because this one is much closer to home.  I'm about half way through their training (even though it's pretty much the stuff I learned from working at the other CPC), and I can't wait until I get to actually just meet with the clients again!  (Although I have sat in with several so far.)  There's so many hurting people.  Last night I was watching the training segment about abortion procedures and medical abortions (RU-486) and it just astounds me at the lie so many poeple believe that abortion is just a simple "fix-all" with no consequences or side effects.  Anyway, I could go on about that for a long time... but basically, I'm really glad to have one evening a week to be doing something worthwhile like this!  I can already tell that I'm in a whole different place than when I first started seeing clients at a CPC... maybe it's a little more confidence from the knowledge and "mentoring skills" I've picked up over the past several years, or maybe it's a little more spiritual maturity.  It's quite the process to learn how to rely on the Spirit rather than on my flesh, and I'm not very good at it yet, but I'm further than where I used to be!

And of course, Micah is still cute as always.  His two year molars are popping in, so he's had his "moments," but he's still a mostly happy kid.  I'm so glad he loves to sleep... it makes my life so much easier to have a kid who likes his naps and who likes going to bed at night!  He says "hi" and "bye" to everybody and everything.  By the time we finish grocery shopping, he's made friends with just about everybody in the store.  I think he's going to be an extrovert... he was in his element at VBS with all those kids around!  The other week we were at Barnes and Noble playing with the Thomas the Train set when a little blond hair, blue-eyed girl the same size as Micah walked up.  They could have been twins, and it was so cute when Micah saw her.  He immediately ran up to her, said "Hi!" while waving his hand, gave her a hug, and then flexed his muscles.  My little ladies' man. :)  I'll close with a few pictures:

So it's been a while.  Life just seems so busy sometimes!  Especially this past month for me... I've been recruiting summer children's ministry volunteers and just reorganizing for the summer months, so I got behind on everything else... including updating my blog!

Well, now that I'm actually sitting down to write this, I don't know what to say!  There's of course the Micah update... he's gotten down all the "important" words, although granted, the average person on the street might not understand what he's saying if it's out of context : cookie, banana, water, bye-bye, hi, night night, movie, dada, mama, up, car (everything that moves is a car... if he hears an airplane, he freezes and keeps repeating "car!  car!" until he finds it in the sky and points to it), ball, clock, binky, thank you, bear, belly, nose, yogurt, shoes... speaking of shoes, I think he has a shoe fetish.  Almost as soon as I get him out of his crib in the morning, he starts saying "shoes! shoes!" and gets his sneakers from the front door.  He only wants his blue pull-on Nike shoes from his cousin Chuckie... if I try putting on anything else he throws a fit.  And not only does HE have to have his shoes on at all times, but if Ben or I are walking around barefoot, he will get our shoes and try to put them on us... so we've learned just to wear shoes so we don't constantly trip over the little boy who is trying to cover our feet.  (If we don't put on the shoes he brings us right away, he'll go get other shoes until we finally put on a pair.)  I just realized today that he knows which shoes are mine and which are Ben's - he's never brought me the wrong pair!  Micah also likes to pull up his shirt and show us his "bella".. he also likes to pull up OUR shirst to show us OUR bellies... which can become a little awkward in public. :)  He's such a fun kid.  I love this age!  It's like everyday there's something new he learned.  Last week, my mom and sister were visiting and my mom pointed out to me that when he plays with his little "shape sorter" (do you know which toy I mean?  The one with all the different holes and the kid has to put the right shape in the right hole)  he knows which shape goes where.  I didn't believe her, but then I watched as she would hand him the red star and he would turn the sorter until he found the red side and then look at the shape... and stick it right in the hole!  Granted, there's only 4 shapes still left (who knows where the other ones went!) so he doesn't have to memorize much, but I was still impressed that his little brain could figure that out.

Ben is doing good too... he started taking classes at VLI (Vineyard Leadership Institute) which is basically the Vineyard's seminary.  He comes home every Monday night excited about the good talk he just heard.  When I just asked Ben what I should write on Xanga about him, he told me to make sure I include that he just got a  very nice bike for $15 from a pseudo-garage sale he saw on the way home from work.  AND, in the same week, one of our old youth group kids gave him their old cornhole set.  As you can see, he was very excited about those two things. :)  He's also playing softball Sunday nights... this past Sunday they didn't have enough girls show up to play, so I got roped into it too... and even though I've never played softball in my life (with the exception of maybe a gym class in high school?), it was pretty fun.  I even hit the ball... although the pitcher immediately caught it.  The funniest part was that I was supposed to be watching two little boys (in addition too Micah) whose Moms play on the team, but since I had to play too, the "manager" and one other guy tried to keep them under wraps while still keeping the game going.  Our church's team pretty much stinks, but they have a lot of fun!

The poopy thing in life right now is that our house is falling apart.  Well, not literally, but there are quite a few quirks.  Our dishwasher died, so we lived without that for a few months while we finished paying off my car... just when we replaced that, our hot water heater died.  (It was only 5 years old!)  The handle on our toilet broke, the pipe that leads up to our shower head is spraying water, the faucet on the outside of the house suddenly stopped working, the hose reel broke, Micah's door no longer closes correctly, Ben's moon roof broke on his car so we tarred it shut, my car alarm goes off at totally random times (I guess the cars aren't really a part of the house though, now are they?), our home computer's hard drive fried (but thanks to Kevin Bucher, that will soon be back on track!), our lawn mower almost comes to a stop when you go up hill, down hill, or sidways on a hill with it... and that's all been just within the past month or two!  (We won't go into the stuff that's been wrong since we bought the house)  I also realized today that our furnace is so old (and the cost of gas is so high!) that we are paying as much for our fixed monthly gas bill as we are for our mortgage (literally.)  BUT the good news is that we're doing fine!  It's all just stuff, and we can live without most of it!  PLUS we have very good friends... like Kevin who is fixing our computer, and Jerry who gave us a faucet for the outside of the house (not to mention put in our new hot water heater - although we did obviously pay him for that one!)  I think this stuff happens to everybody, but Ben and I had to laugh when we were listing these things off last night.  It sounds like a lot when you see it written down!  It's very nice that the government decided to give us $1,500... it couldn't have come at a better time.  (Just wish it would have stayed around a little longer!)  One thing I am very excited about is that we only have one more thing to pay off - Ben's last school loan, and then we are debt free!!!! (With the exception of the house mortgage of course.)  Thank you very much, Dave Ramsey! :) Unless things keep going the way they are now, that will hopefully be paid off by the end of the year, and then we can start saving a little more... and hopefully when baby #2 comes along, I'll be able to stay home full time!  (Don't start any rumors... that won't be for a little while yet!)

Wow, I wrote much more than I thought I would.  I guess that pretty much catches you up.  I'll close with pictures of course.

P.s. For anyone who sponsored me in the Walk for Life- you'll start getting your pictures of Micah this week!  I accidently turned in my pledge form without keeping a copy for myself of who sponsored me - so the lady from the MVWC will fax me a copy so I know who to start sending photos to!  Thanks for helping me reach my goal of $1,000!

Bathtime with friends!

Micah 12-15 months 023

This was a couple of months ago, but I put Micah down for his afternoon nap and turned on his space heater like I always do.  Little did I realize that he had played with the temperature dial and it was turned up much warmer than usual!  When he woke up 3 hours later, he was soaked!  This is what his hair looked like when I pulled him out of the crib.  Ben was holding his water bottle, and Micah chucked his binky, grabbed the bottle, and started guzzling!
